After we read through What Makes Day and Night, we spent some time in the dark room! First I held the flash light and shone it at kids

Kids were shown the difference between day and night and they drew day and night pictures. We discussed activities they could do during the day and at night. We learnt the days of the week, and sang about them.

We spoke about the sun and stars and made them from the play-dough.

Moon.

The following days there was Moon unit and we had fun learning about the moon and its phases. Some books about Moon were read to kids and at the end we explored the surface of the moon. We did a craft project.

Most preschoolers like day time better than night time, and there may be several reasons for this. Among them, night time means the fun and activity of the day is slowing down and they must prepare for bedtime. Another thing they may dread is the darkness of night. Some children have trouble going to sleep because they are afraid of the shadow at night. These songs and activities here mean to relieve some of those fears and help children understand that the day and night both have an important place in how we live and grow.

Song #1

The sun is shining oh-so- bright, oh-so-bright, oh-so-bright!

The sun is shining oh-so-bright, it’s day and time for play.

The stars are shining oh-so-bright-, oh-so-bright, oh-so-bright!

The stars are shining oh-so-bright, it’s night and time for sleep.

Song #2 – Tune: The bear went over the mountain

V. 1 The sun comes up in the morning, the sun comes up in the morning,

The sun comes up in the morning, it’s time to rise and shine!

It’s time to rise and shine! It’s time to rise and shine!

The sun comes up in the morning, the sun comes up in the morning,

The sun comes up in the morning, it’s time to rise and shine!

V. 2 The stars come out in the night time, The stars come out in the night time,

The stars come out in the night time, It’s time to go to bed!

It’s time to go to bed! It’s time to go to bed!
